The Journey of a Human Rights Defender: From Inner Resilience to Global Impact.
About Turid Heiberg.
A Legacy of Activism and Systems-Thinking
My work has always been driven by a refusal to look away. Whether navigating the complexities of international policy or the inner landscapes of the human mind. My mission is to protect the vulnerable and amplify the voices that have been silenced.
My path began in the 1970s as a student in Oslo. I stepped into activism and journalism not simply to be "involved," but to ignite conversations that multicultural Norway was ignoring. This early fire led to the co-founding of the Norwegian Centre Against Racism and the MiRA Centre for immigrant and refugee women.
This grassroots foundation evolved into a career of high-level systemic change. My academic and professional journey has included:
Research and Teaching: Conducting vital research at PRIO and teaching political science and sociology at the University of Oslo.
International Leadership: Serving with Save the Children as a regional leader in South and Central Asia, where I bridged the gap between governments and NGOs to build lasting protective systems for children.
European Policy: Shaping progress through the Council of the Baltic Sea States and the World Childhood Foundation.
Independent Advisory: Since 2019, I have consulted for institutions and ministries across Europe, specializing in anti-trafficking, violence prevention, and social inclusion.
When Inner Clarity Meets Human Dignity.
The Heart Behind the Academic.
While I have worked alongside queens, presidents, and ministers, my most profound insights came from confronting my own history. For decades, I championed others while avoiding my own inner voice, a childhood marked by the absence of empathy and the weight of rigid, often abusive, expectations.
In 2025, I made a pivotal decision to move from researcher to storyteller. I joined a global community of over 100 authors in the international #1 bestselling series: Start Over – Turn Any Loss into a Sensational Comeback. In Book 9, I share for the first time the raw honesty of my personal life journey. It is a story of choosing to stay alive for my sisters, finding my voice in the Student Parliament, and finally reclaiming my authentic self through psychotherapy and mindfulness. I learned that what broke me did not define me; instead, it became the doorway back to myself and to a life of luminous simplicity.
"Being nothing, empty of old stories, means being everything, without carrying the burden of history." - Turid Heiberg
Every transformation begins with a single conversation.
Whether you are seeking a partner in advocacy or a fellow traveler on the path to resilience, I would be honored to hear your story. I am here to walk with you.
I believe that lasting change must protect people on the outside while strengthening their resilience on the inside. This philosophy guides my writing today.

A Legacy of Evidence-Based Advocacy
Drawing from decades of rigorous inquiry, my work bridges the gap between high-level academic research and practical, human-centered policy. I have authored in over 100publications, including scientific books, regional reports, and specialized research on human rights. Engaging diverse audiences through documentaries, film scripts, and over 50 articles in professional magazines and journals to amplify voices that are often ignored.

Best selling co-author
For the first time, I moved beyond systemic research to share the deep, personal story of how my life shaped who I am today. This project was defined by the power of community and the courage to be seen. In Book 9, I wrote alongside thirteen other remarkable individuals, each sharing heart-centered experiences to help others find their way through their own transitions. While my specific volume features fourteen voices, I am part of a vast global network of over 100 authors across the series.
A Shared Journey: Connecting with a community of open-hearted people who believe that sharing our stories can ignite a new paradigm of joy and freedom.
The Power of Proximity: Proving that while we build systems to protect, it is community that sustains us.
Instant Impact: Published in February 2026, the book became an instant bestseller, reaching people worldwide.

Fiction Rooted in Lived Experience
What if the life you are performing is the only thing standing in the way of the life you were meant to live?
After fifty years of protecting human rights on the global stage, I am now breaking the silence on the inner landscapes that define us all.
Coming in Spring 2026, my solo debut fiction, The Heart Library, pulls back the curtain on six different lives, six raw perspectives, and the one shared mystery that connects them across every border. This isn't just a story, it´s based on true, real life experience from people trying to find the light in a world set to tear them apart.
